Lifting / Solvent Aggression
The topcoat dissolves the underlying layer, leading to wrinkling, swelling, or bubbling.
Description:
Lifting or solvent aggression is usually caused by unsuitable painting conditions or incompatible paint layers.

Cause:
- The topcoat is applied before the underlying layer has dried.
- Insufficient evaporation time between layers.
- Poor solvent resistance of the undercoat or too strong a solvent in the topcoat.
- Poor adhesion of the underlying layer.
- Coats applied too thickly.
Repair:
- Lightly sand the affected area, seal the surface, and repaint.
- Be especially careful with sensitive substrates: keep each coat thin and allow sufficient evaporation time.
- If the lifting is severe, completely remove the affected area and reapply the entire paint system.
