Loss of Gloss
Loss of Gloss: Beautiful gloss in wet paint, but gloss disappears as the surface dries or ages.
Description:
Loss of gloss is most often caused by improper handling of the paint or substrate, or unfavorable conditions during the painting process.

Cause:
- A rough substrate and coarse sandpaper cause excessive absorption of the topcoats.
- An overly thick and uneven metallic basecoat causes the clearcoat to sink into the grooves.
- Too thick a primer layer and insufficient drying of the primer or surface.
- Insufficient drying time before polishing.
- Incorrect paint-to-thinner ratio.
- Poorly selected thinner not suited to the painting conditions.
- Poor spray booth conditions can cause moisture to remain in the topcoat:
- Insufficient ventilation or poor air circulation.
- Too hot, too cold, or too humid an environment.
Repair:
- Polish the surface to restore gloss once the paint is completely dry. If that does not help, lightly sand and repaint the surface.
