Orange Peel
Orange Peel: A painted surface with an uneven texture resembling orange peel.
Description:
A painted surface with an uneven texture resembling orange peel.

Cause:
- The paint is too thick. The viscosity is too high for the spraying conditions.
- The thinner evaporates too quickly under the spraying conditions.
- Extreme temperatures in the spray booth. When the air temperature is too high, the droplets lose more solvent and dry before they can spread evenly.
- Incorrect spray gun settings and techniques:
- Too thick or too thin a layer, spray gun too far from the surface.
- Incorrect pressure or nozzle adjustment.
- Insufficient time between layers or too short drying time.
Prevention:
- Thin the paint to the correct viscosity according to the recommended mixing ratio.
- Choose the correct thinner based on temperature, humidity, air circulation, and the size of the repair.
- Use the correct spray gun settings, technique, and air pressure.
- Ensure sufficient drying time between coats.
- Properly prepare and sand the surface.
- Avoid extreme temperature and humidity conditions. Recommended air temperature is around 20 °C.
Correction:
- Use polishing compound or abrasive to reduce the texture of the surface.
- Alternatively, sand the surface with very fine sandpaper and polish to restore the gloss.
- Or sand the surface smooth and repaint.
